ABL Week 10 Recap

For the first time in the history of the Australian Baseball League, the Melbourne Aces will be hosting the Championship Series (February 8-12). Adelaide and Brisbane will play this weekend in the Preliminary Finals.

melbourne-aces-logoDespite not playing on Thursday, the Aces clinched the spot in the championship series. They had also lost five in a row before winning Saturday’s doubleheader.

The Aces played their final regular season series at Perth this past weekend. They lost the first game, 2-1 and collected just two hits.

Roman Collins moved to the cleanup spot, but went 0-for-4. Allan de San Miguel dropped to sixth, but went 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout. Ryan Dale was back at third base (batting ninth). He went 0-for-3.

Free agent Peter Moylan allowed a hit and struck out two in one inning of work (11 pitches, eight strikes).

The Aces won their doubleheader on Saturday, winning the first game by a 7-1 score.

Collins went 2-for-3 with a sac fly. Moving up to the fifth spot in the order, de San Miguel went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. He was caught stealing.

Melbourne won the second game, 2-1, scoring two runs in the 8th inning.

Collins moved to the third spot, but went 0-for-2. He did walk twice and score a run. Dale was back in the lineup and moved up to seventh in the order. He went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts.

Perth won the series finale on Sunday, 8-2.

In the loss, Collins went 2-for-4 with his 11th double. He also drove in his 22nd run. Dale dropped back down to ninth in the order and went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts. He also committed his fourth error.

 

 

*Unless Cody Jones is injured or sick, I suspect he is no longer in Australia. He has not played since January 20th.
