Aguilas wins DWL Finals opener

The best-of-nine Dominican Winter League Finals kicked off last night, with round-robin winner Aguilas beating Licey, 4-3. Aguilas scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth and one in the seventh to win the game.

Former KC Royal Francisco Pena drove in the game winner in the bottom of the seventh on a one out, RBI single. Former Cleveland minor leaguer Josh Judy earned his seventh postseason save (he has yet to allow an earned run during the winter ball season).

Licey had just one base runner over the final four innings (a one out walk in the seventh around three strikeouts).

 

In the Clemente League best-of-nine finals, Santurce took a three games to two lead with a 3-1 victory over Caguas last night. All of the runs were scored in the 4th inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, former Royal Reymond Fuentes led off the inning for Santurce with a single. Three batters later, Christian Vazquez (Boston Red Sox) drove in two runs with a single.

Jack Lopez went 2-for-4 in the loss (Caguas only had five total hits).
