Pounders selected for Triple-A All-Star Game

On Thursday, the Triple-A All-Stars were announced for the upcoming game in Charlotte on July 13th (7pm ET on MLB Network).

2016 Triple-A asg logoThere will be one player representing Triple-A Omaha and that would be right-hander Brooks Pounders. Despite starting seven of his first eight appearances, Pounders has been coming out of the bullpen since the middle of May (his last ten appearances).

Pounders is third in the PCL in ERA at 2.84 (just three pitchers have ERAs under 3.00). He is fifth in strikeouts with 76 (in 63.1 innings). Opponents are hitting just .219 against him.

I was surprised that a middle reliever was picked for the Pacific Coast League All-Star roster, but a 1.77 ERA in the month of June probably sealed it for Pounders.

It is the first All-Star selection for Pounders at any stage of his professional career.

Congrats to Brooks and make sure to tune in to MLB Network!

*Former Storm Chaser Sean O’Sullivan (Pawtucket) will pitch for the International League. Catcher Manny Pina was selected for the PCL (Colorado Springs). You can see the entire rosters HERE.

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
