Earlier today, the Texas League announced their rosters for the upcoming All-Star Game on June 28th in Springfield.
The NW Arkansas Naturals had five players named to the North Division squad.
Third baseman Mauricio Ramos was selected to start, as he is ranked ninth in the TL in batting average at .288. In 60 games, Ramos has hit 11 doubles and three home runs, with 26 RBIs and 15 runs scored.
First baseman/DH Frank Schwindel was selected as a bench player. In 50 games, he has hit .267 with four doubles and nine home runs. Schwindel has driven in 31 runs while scoring 20.
On the pitching side, the Naturals collected three All-Stars.
Closer Kevin McCarthy ranks second in the TL in saves with 11, though he has blown three and has a 3.12 ERA. In 34.2 innings, McCarthy has allowed 26 hits (three homers), walked just eight, while striking out 29.
Starter Alec Mills, who made his Major League debut earlier this season, is making his second consecutive All-Star team (he was a Carolina League All-Star with High-A Wilmington last year). Mills is sixth in the TL in ERA (2.39), but is just 1-2. Over 67.2 innings, he has allowed 57 hits (two homers), walked 12, and struck out 68 (second in the TL).
Fellow starter Jake Junis (who is starting later tonight) is seventh in the TL in ERA (2.49) with a record of 6-3 (more wins than he had all of 2015). Over 68.2 innings, he has allowed 49 hits (eight homers), walked 15, and struck out a league-high 70. Junis has made a case to be the North’s starting pitcher.
Congrats and best of luck to all five!
