The KC Royals added right-handed pitcher Dillon Gee to their 40-man roster today. Gee was in camp as a non-roster invitee after signing a minor league contract this offseason. His opt-out date was today.
To make room for Gee on the roster, the Royals placed left-handed pitcher Mike Minor on the 60-day DL. Minor isn’t expected to be ready for game action until the summer.
Gee is also out of options, so it looks like he has earned a spot on the Opening Day roster despite pitching in just two games (5IP, 5H, R, 2BB, 3K) so far this spring. If he does earn a big league roster spot, he will earn $2 million with an opportunity to earn up to $3.3 million in bonuses based on games started and $700,000 for relief appearances.
