Royals, Moustakas avoid arbitration

Later on Thursday night, the KC Royals announced that they avoided arbitration with third baseman Mike Moustakas. He was the last of the Royals remaining arbitration-eligible players.

Moose seemed to figure out the big leagues in 2015, hitting .284 with 34 doubles, 22 home runs, and 82 RBIs. He made the All-Star team, being voted in by the fans in the Final Vote.

Moose signed a two-year deal, thus buying out his final two years of arbitration (something he talked about wanting to do when he was at Fan Fest a few weekends ago). He will make $5.6 million this season and $8.7 million next season (his final year with the team).

The salary could prove to be a steal, if he continues to play stellar defense at third base and continues to stay out of the shift.

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
