VWL and MPL Semis underway

The semifinals are underway in both the Mexican Pacific League and the Venezuelan Winter League.

KC Royals free agent Alex Liddi moved from Jalisco (who lost in the first round to Mexicali) to Obregon, who leads Mazatlan in the semis, 2-1. Mexicali leads the other semifinal, 2-1 over Navojoa.

Liddi went 2-for-7 with two runs scored and two RBIs in two games this week.

venezuelaIn the VWL, Margarita lost to Caribes in the win or go home game on Monday. Carlos Garcia made a rare start for Margarita (he played second base and batted ninth). Garcia went 0-for-2.

So Caribes moved on to face Magallanes, where the series is tied at 1-1.

For Caribes, Royals free agent Gabriel Noriega started at third base in Monday’s win or go home game. He went 1-for-4. In last night’s victory to tie the series, Noriega started at shortstop and went 2-for-5 with two runs scored. He did ground into a double play and committed an error.

In the other VWL semifinal, La Guaira and Aragua are tied up at 1-1.

Jose Martinez has started in right field and batted sixth in both games for La Guaira. He has gone 3-for-8 with an RBI. He did however, commit a fielding error last night.

*In other winter league news, Licey of the Dominican Republic saw their 12-game winning streak come to an end last night. They now lead the round robin with a 12-2 record.

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
