Moon, Hill begin play in Australia

The Australian Baseball League began play (overnight in the US) with two KC Royals minor leaguers participating. Those two started for reigning ABL champion Melbourne.

Logan Moon started in right field for the Aces in the opener and batted second. He went 2-for-4 with a strikeout.

Utilityman Mike Hill, who will predominantly be catching while in Australia, was the Aces cleanup hitter. He went 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. The double led off the 4th inning with the game scoreless and Hill came around to score on a single with one out (two runs scored).

Hill was behind the plate as Matthew Larkins shut out Sydney for eight innings (four hits, a hit batter, and three walks while striking out two). The 26 year old right-hander has only played independent baseball.

William Wu followed with a hitless ninth. The two combined to hold the Blue Sox to just three chances with runners in scoring position.

The Aces third run came in the bottom of the eighth on a double steal, with former big leaguer Brad Harman stealing home.

It was the first season opening win for the Aces since the 2012-2013 season.

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
