Another rough start from Cueto

The Baltimore Orioles scored two runs each in three straight innings and held on for the 8-5 victory over the KC Royals. The two teams combined for 24 hits and six home runs.

thumb downIt was the second straight poor start from Johnny Cueto, as he allowed six runs on eight hits and a walk over just five innings. He allowed three two-run home runs.

In his last two starts, Cueto has allowed 13 runs (12 earned) on 21 hits over 11 innings. Hopefully, this is just a hiccup because this is NOT the pitcher the Royals thought they were acquiring at the trading deadline.

Jeremy Guthrie made his first relief appearance since 2012 and allowed two runs on five hits over four innings. He allowed two solo homers.

The Royals did get a two-run homer from Mike Moustakas in the 8th inning off O’s lefty reliever Brian Matusz. It was one of his two hits.

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
