Royals weekly recap & awards: Week 18

The KC Royals went 4-2 last week to increase their American League Central lead over Minnesota to 11.5 games. The Royals now welcome Detroit to town for three games beginning tonight.

Triple-A Omaha went just 1-6 last week and dropped into third place in the Pacific Coast League American Northern Division (5.5 games back at 63-53). The Storm Chasers begin a four-game home series against Memphis Tuesday night.

TROPHYDouble-A NW Arkansas went 2-5 last week and are still in last place in the Texas League North Division at 16-27 (worst second half record). The Naturals begin a six-game homestand Tuesday night against San Antonio.

High-A Wilmington has lost a franchise-worst 14 games in a row and have the worst second half record in the Carolina League (14-29). The Blue Rocks begin a three-game home series against Carolina Tuesday night.

Low-A Lexington went 3-4 last week and dropped to seven games back in the South Atlantic League Southern Division. The Legends begin a seven game in six days road trip Tuesday night at Charleston.

Royals Hitter of the Week: DH Kendrys Morales has quietly put together a solid season in his first year with the Royals. Last week, he went 9-for-23 (.391) with two doubles, a triple, and a home run. Morales drove in seven runs and scored four.

Royals Pitcher of the Week: Kris Medlen walked just one last week in four innings (he picked the runner off first base). He struck out three. His second appearance of the week came on Sunday, when he threw 3.2 hitless innings of relief.

Minor League Hitter of the Week: Reymond Fuentes has moved into the leadoff spot for Omaha and thrived last week. He went 11-for-32 (.344) with three doubles. Fuentes drove in three runs and scored two.

Minor League Pitcher of the Week: It has been an up-and-down season for Naturals lefty Daniel Stumpf, but last week was a positive one. He made three appearances (totaling six scoreless innings). Stumpf allowed one hit and walked two while striking out five.
