Perez, Duffy lead Royals over Tigers

On a day that the Detroit Tigers replaced their GM, the KC Royals went in and got the 5-1 victory.

Struggling Salvador Perez woke up in facing the Tigers Justin Verlander. Perez went 3-for-4 with a two out, two-run home run in the 4th inning. He also singled in the Royals first run in the 2nd inning.

Perez is a lifetime .474 hitter against Verlander.

Lefty Danny Duffy allowed just one run over seven innings. He allowed five hits, but walked four while striking out two.

Ryan Madson and Luke Hochevar each threw a perfect inning of relief behind Duffy. Both threw 12 pitches.

The win (and Minnesota’s loss) put the Royals 9.5 games up in the American League Central and 12.5 games over the Tigers (third place).

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
