One week ago, many Omaha Storm Chasers led at their respective positions to start in the Triple-A All-Star Game that will be held in Omaha on July 15th (televised on MLB Network).
The Storm Chasers will have two players representing in the ASG, but both are pitchers.
Lefty John Lamb was one of two starting pitchers selected for the All-Star team. It would be nice to see him get the start in his home ballpark. He is 8-1 with a 2.71 ERA in 13 starts. Over 73 innings, he has struck out 70 and walked 25. Opponents are hitting .234 against him.
Reliever Louis Coleman was the other Omaha selection. He is 4-1 with a 1.42 ERA in 38 innings with six saves. Coleman has 33 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .212 against him.
Two snubs, besides the offensive players (though two outfielders who were deserving are currently on the DL: Jose Martinez and Reymond Fuentes), were relievers Buddy Baumann and Scott Alexander. Baumann has a 1.80 ERA and 44 strikeouts in 40 innings. Alexander has five saves, a 1.88 ERA, and 30 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.
Former Royal Jamie Romak (Reno) was voted in as the starting third baseman.
*My favorite for the HR Derby is Reno’s Peter O’Brien. I saw first hand in 2014 the type of power he has. Round Rock’s Jared Hoying is also a good choice, especially since he loves hitting against Omaha.
