The Royals opened up a 4-0 lead in the top of the first. Three of those runs came around to score on Alex Gordon‘s two out home run. It was his seventh of the season.

They also capitalized on three costly Twins errors (three unearned runs).

Edinson Volquez struggled a bit with his control (71 of his 115 pitches for strikes), but he battled through it to give the Royals a quality start. He earned the victory (5-4), as he allowed one run on six hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out seven.

Luke Hochevar allowed a solo home run in the eighth before Jason Frasor pitched a perfect ninth (11 pitches, nine for strikes).

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
