The KC Royals took the all-important first game in the three-game series in Minnesota, winning 3-1.

A few hours after overtaking Seattle’s Nelson Cruz for the lead at DH in the All-Star voting, Kendrys Morales reminded people why he is receiving so much support.

Morales put the Royals on the board in the top of the 2nd inning with a two-run home run. He now has 41 RBIs in hitting his seventh homer of the season.

That was enough offense for both starter Jason Vargas and the Royals bullpen.

Vargas allowed five hits over six shutout innings. He struck out two. Ryan Madson did allow a solo homer in the seventh. Wade Davis worked around a walk in the eighth and Greg Holland worked a perfect ninth for his tenth save.

*Mike Moustakas and Eric Hosmer both had two hits in the win.

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
