Duffy to DL, Finnegan back up again

As many predicted, the KC Royals placed lefty Danny Duffy on the DL with left biceps tendinitis. It is retroactive to May 17th and he is eligible to return on June 1st (next Monday).

Duffy has not pitched well and has taxed the bullpen. He had a cortisone shot on Friday and his arm did not respond well. Duffy was scheduled to start on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium, but fellow lefty Jason Vargas has been deemed healthy. He will be activated from the DL and make the start.

The Royals called up lefty Brandon Finnegan to fill a bullpen hole. He may be headed right back to Triple-A Omaha when Vargas is activated. Finnegan has had control issues this season, especially in the minors. He has walked 13 (compared to 15 strikeouts) in just 15 innings. I don’t know how the Royals expect him to figure it out if they keep moving him up-and-down.

Right fielder Alex Rios will begin a rehab assignment today with the Storm Chasers.

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
