The KC Royals showed off some of their offseason acquisitions in beating visiting St. Louis, 5-0. It was a matchup of the two best teams in their respective leagues.
It was the Chris Young and Kendrys Morales show.
Young continued to dominate the opposition, only this time it was a National League team. He got eight infield pop ups. He allowed six singles and walked two, but also induced a double play. However, his only perfect inning was his last, the sixth.
Cardinals third baseman Matt Carpenter had two singles and a walk against Young.
I really find it hard to believe that the Royals would take him out of the rotation anytime soon. I mean, he lowered his era to 0.78!
The Royals collected 11 hits, but there were only two hits that mattered and they both came off the bat of Morales.
Morales hit a two out, three-run home run in the bottom of the first against Cardinals starter Lance Lynn. Morales then hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third off of Lynn.
The two teams continue the series on Saturday, as Edinson Volquez will get the start for the Royals. The game will be broadcast on FOX. Sunday’s game will be broadcast on MLB Network with Yordano Ventura on the mound.
Lefty Danny Duffy will be skipped with an arm issue, but is expected to start on Tuesday. Fellow lefty Jason Vargas threw a simulated game tonight and said he felt good. He could be coming off the DL next week or be heading out on a rehab assignment.
