Rios heads to DL, Gore up?

The KC Royals faced their first bit of adversity on Tuesday, when they found out that the pitch that hit right fielder Alex Rios on Monday afternoon actually fractured his left pinky. Rios has been placed on the DL with no timetable yet for his return.

The Royals will make a corresponding roster move on Wednesday.

However, Terrance Gore was pulled from Double-A NW Arkansas’ afternoon game without getting an at-bat. All of the other possible outfield options (Lane Adams and Jorge Bonifacio with NWA and Whit Merrifield, Brett Eibner, Reymond Fuentes, and Moises Sierra with Omaha) played today/tonight.

With Rios out (who was hitting over .300 so far this season), manager Ned Yost will have to utilize his bench. It also means less days off (if any) for Lorenzo Cain and Alex Gordon.

Hopefully Yost goes with Paulo Orlando to play right field and he can continue to showcase his talent.

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
