Gordon has surgery

Just when things have been super positive coming out of the KC Royals so far this offseason with some of the roster upgrades, word came out on Tuesday that Gold Glove winner Alex Gordon needed right wrist surgery.

Specifically, Gordon had successful right wrist extensor retinaculum repair on Tuesday morning. He is expected to recover in plenty of time for the 2015 season opener on April 6th. However, if you are planning a trip to Surprise for spring training, I suggest heading to Arizona later in the month of March if you want to see him play.

Gordon battled right wrist irritation prior to the 2014 All-Star break, but it did not lead to a DL stint. He since re-aggravated the injury during his offseason workouts (he reached out to the Royals just before Christmas about the discomfort).

Having the surgery now avoids any further complications and a loss of playing time in 2015.

Here’s to a speedy recovery for Alex!

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
