Coleman, Sierra headed to Omaha

On Monday, the KC Royals announced that they secured outright waivers on both outfielder Moises Sierra and reliever Casey Coleman. They then assigned both of them to Triple-A Omaha.

Coleman had until yesterday to either accept the assignment or elect free agency.

Well, he must have liked his short time with the Royals in 2014, because he accepted the assignment.

The reigning Triple-A Champion Storm Chasers are looking to be stockpiled with minor league veterans in 2015 (at least as we head into the new year). They had already re-signed pitcher Clayton Mortensen and first baseman Matt Fields, and signed lefty Joe Paterson.

Not to mention the players who will not make the Royals Opening Day roster. Sure, players will be released, traded, or get injured between now and then, but where will all of their younger prospects go?

Only time will tell, as spring training is right around the corner.

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
