More Royals roster moves

On Friday, with a HUGE series set to start in Detroit, the KC Royals made a bevy of roster moves.

First, starter Jason Vargas was placed on the DL with a strained flexor in his left elbow. Right now, he does not need surgery and hopes to play catch next week. Fingers crossed that he only misses a few starts.

Chris Young will take Vargas’ rotation spot this weekend. Yohan Pino, who was just optioned to Triple-A, was called back up.

Shortstop Alcides Escobar returned from the concussion DL. Third baseman Mike Moustakas left the team to deal with a family emergency.

Catcher Drew Butera was officially activated today after being acquired on Thursday. As expected, Francisco Pena was optioned to Omaha.

*In minors news, veteran shortstop Rafael Furcal will be making his season debut tonight with High-A Wilmington. He is starting for the Blue Rocks and batting in the two-spot. Fingers crossed that he starts again on Saturday night. No word yet on the corresponding move.

About Jen Nevius

I first became a KC Royals fan way back in 1995 when I attended my first Wilmington Blue Rocks game. I fell in love with minor league baseball then and began following the Royals as former Blue Rocks clawed their way to the big leagues. 3+ years ago I started covering the Royals for Aerys Sports, but since the site has been shut down, I am going out on my own.
